Art 4 Art’s Sake
“Art 4 Art’s Sake”
(or, if you prefer, how I just killed 2 hours and got a woody, a random pagemonkey rant)
I have known, Gentle Reader, for a long time, that my buddy Jose at bi Latin Men has quite an art gallery online in the member area of his site, but I have never really gotten around to checking it out.
Until this afternoon, silly me - when I most clearly have other things that need doing much more than doing this needed doing.
But, dammit, it’s just too much fun to pass up. Screw the deadlines!
I mean that figuratively, not literally; I don’t want to come across as a necrophiliac with a paperwork sub-fetish.
But sometimes, G. Reader, it is purely pleasing and decadent in a mind-cleansing, constructive sense to simply look at the works of others with no other purpose than letting said works take you away, to let them free your imagination or memory.
Fact is, bi Latin Men has quite a fanboy following on the west coast - you can’t swing a cat by the tail without clawing up some BLM- sponsored or BLM- inspired “sexy Mexie” party at some LA or Orange County nightspot.
And some of these bi Latin Men fanboys have, shall we say, an artistic bent to some degree of function or another.
Hence, the 160 or so original drawings online at bi Latin Men.
This stuff spans the whole range - from the tasteful to the… er, not-so tasteful
But the neat part is that you can look at these works and suddenly have a craving for all things Mexican; they are drawn by Mexicans, and accurately represent how straight, bisexual and gay Mexicans think and act.
Some of them are sort of topical, like this. Others explore the fascination that us whitebreads have with the “ghetto vato” personna, like so. Still others blow away other various stereotypes (as in any more Asian stereotypes!? or uh, I’m the skinny little… ) and do so with a sense of refreshing “first-person” honesty. Others are simpy beautiful, like Elysian Park, a nice combination of photography and pencil art.
If you get a chance, stop by and check it out.
