Book Review - BLASPHEMY

I’m not one to frequently read novels. I prefer biographies or politics. But, once in a while I find a novel that appeals to me for any number of reasons. Sometimes one is recommended to me by someone I admire, and sometimes I see one that just intrigues me for some reason. This book caught my eye and I thought I’d give it a try. I’m sure glad I did because I really enjoyed reading it, and I recommended it to anyone who enjoys a fast paced and well constructed story.

What I instantly noticed is that Douglas Preston reminds me very much of Michael Crichton. He similarly combines science and politics, and he does it within a story that has complex characters set in a fast paced environment.

The main character is a man named Wyman Ford, who is hired to investigate some very unusual activities at the world’s largest supercollider, known as Isabella, built in the Arizona desert on Navajo land.

There are issues of religion and science and politics all tangled up together, and starts out fast and ends even faster.

There is romance and conflict - violence and intellectualism - and most importantly there is a mystery and a surprise ending. This is the kind of thing that I find extremely entertaining in a novel.

I’m happy to recommend this book to anyone to enjoys a good read that isn’t just fluff.
